Take that, wingnuts

Hey you people who showed up at a town hall meeting with a gun, or a picture of Obama with a Hitler moustache, or a firm belief in death panels, you really, really bummed me out. I lost so much faith in my country in the last month. Do we really disdain each other so fully? Is this who we are?

In your face with how the other half of the country makes itself heard.

In your face with Race for the Cure. In your face with me signing up to run it, a couple months after I finished cancer treatment.

In your face with Paul from Pennsylvania, who donated $100 for the race 13 minutes after I posted a very casual request on FaceBook.

In your face with David from NYC who ponied up about a half hour later.

In your face with Warren who is from Great Britain so he grew up with health care.

In your face with Jen who came to my last day of chemotherapy even though I'd barely seen her in 10 years.

In your face with Matt from Oklahoma.

In your face with Naoki from Japan.

In your face with Microsoft Publisher '98, that's 11+ years ago, and that's where I knew all these people who gave money.

In your face with Peter C who stands to lose his shirt under health insurance reform and I'd put him in charge of it anyway. He ponied up.

In your face with Peter W from Canada who saw neither hide nor hair of me for at least a decade, let me friend him on FB last week, and then immediately donated to my fundraiser.

In your face with how it feels to go to bed after asking friends for money:

...and wake up to see this (which made me snort coffee out of my nose):

That's what hippie socialists like me call a community. It's a freaking nice thing to have.
